Diagnostic ultrasound

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of the inside of the body. It does not use ionising radiation.

Do I need to prepare?

Preparation depends on the examination. Some abdominal scans require fasting; some pelvic scans require a full bladder. Other examinations, such as those of the thyroid, breast, muscles or tendons, generally need little or no special preparation.

Ask reception for the instructions for your specific examination when you book.
