Assessment of movement and function, followed by a rehabilitation pathway.
A specialist in physical and rehabilitation medicine assesses movement and the effects of musculoskeletal or neurological conditions, and plans rehabilitation. A physiotherapist supports the patient through exercises and treatment based on that assessment.
Back pain: what helps?
Most back pain is non-specific and often improves within a few weeks. Staying in bed for long periods is generally unhelpful; gradual activity can support recovery.
When to speak to a doctor
- Pain that is not improving after a few weeks, or is worsening.
- Pain following an injury.
- Difficulty with everyday movements or recovery after an operation.
For back pain with tingling, weakness or numbness in both legs, or chest pain, call 112 immediately.
At W&B
- Specialist rehabilitation medicine consultations.
- Physiotherapy: orthopaedic rehabilitation, breast rehabilitation, manual therapy using the Maitland concept and lymphoedema treatment.
