Cardiology

Care for the heart and blood vessels, from risk factors to diagnosis and follow-up.

Why check your blood pressure if you feel well?

High blood pressure often causes no symptoms. According to the World Health Organization, nearly one in two adults who have hypertension are unaware of it. Measuring blood pressure is how it is detected.

When to speak to a doctor

  • High blood pressure readings on repeated measurements.
  • Breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness or swollen legs.
  • A family history of cardiovascular disease or risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol or excess weight.

For severe or sudden chest pain, call 112 immediately.

At W&B

  • Cardiology consultation with ECG: medical history, blood pressure measurement and electrocardiogram.
  • Echocardiography / cardiac colour Doppler ultrasound: ultrasound assessment of the heart’s size, valves and pumping function.
  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.
  • 24-hour ECG monitoring when indicated by the doctor.

Ask reception whether the consultation and any examinations can be arranged during the same visit.
